Tora Garage, which operates a very successful autogas conversion and filling centre at its premises in Westside Business Park, Newcastle, is now celebrating two years in business. As well as providing a full repair service for all makes and types of cars, Tora Garage also converts cars from petrol to autogas and operates a filling station offering Flogas autogas at .90c a litre, which compares very favourably with the current average price of €1.60c a litre for petrol. Motorists spending €150-200 a month on petrol would save €75-100 a month following conversion.

Newcastle taxi driver Pat Casey converted his 1.6L Toyota Avensis to autogas in January 2014. Pat said, “Recently, I drove my newly converted car from Salthill to Dublin city centre and back again and the trip only cost me 39 euros in autogas. The same trip would have cost me over 70 euros in petrol.

I am very happy with the results and there’s been no change in performance or handling at all. Less emissions means a cleaner engine which is a plus when you are going for the NCT.”

Tora Garage co-owner Tomas Balaisis said, “Depending on the number of cylinders the car has, the price for conversion starts from €1,100 plus VAT. Drivers doing a lot of mileage, like taxi drivers, would get this cost back in a matter of months. It also reduces harmful emissions from your car so it’s good for the environment as well.”

Tomas also cautioned those interested in converting their car to check that a garage is fully certified

to do so. He said, “As a registered Autogas conversion centre and outlet with the Irish LPG Association, it means that we are fully insured to carry out conversions. If your car is not fitted with

the correct car kit by an experienced mechanic, it can damage the engine, increase gas consumption, cause power loss and even affect your car insurance as many insurers need a garage certificate.”

Tora Garage is the exclusive distributor in Ireland for the VIALLE Liquid Si range of automotive gas systems from Holland. VIALLE is a world leader in the production of gas equipment and, following years of research and testing, its automotive gas system’s performance is fully consistent with that of the most technologically advanced petrol injection systems.

Tora Garage Co-owner Raivis Dombrovskis said, “If your car was registered on or after 1st converting to autogas using the VIALLE automotive gas system will lower your emissions by 20% and you will then qualify for lower road tax which is another benefit.”
