It was good news on the double for Greenisland FC as Flogas, a leading supplier of LPG and Natural Gas, happily ‘jetted in’ to sponsor its Greenisland 2003 Jets U-15 football team. The Jets play in the very competitive South Belfast Boys League, which has over 250 teams competing in various age groups every week.
The Flogas sponsorship comes on the back of the welcome news that the Antrim club has scored funding of £50,000 to upgrade its existing football pitches. The club, which has produced top calibre players like Jonny and Corry Evans and Craig Cathcart, made a successful application through the Alpha Programme, a scheme that administers landfill tax credits.
Paul Ruegg, senior marketing executive, Flogas said, “We’re very pleased to be involved in Greenisland FC because of its strong player development ethos, excellent community spirit and its commitment towards supporting its young members on and off the pitch. We wish them the best of luck in the upcoming season!”
The Antrim-based club has a very strong coaching infrastructure and manages player development programmes for boys and girls from all locations and backgrounds from the age of five up to two senior teams competing successfully in the Amateur league. It boasts over 300 young male and female players, 50 senior players and 60 coaches, all involved in four competitive leagues across Northern Ireland. It has strong links with European clubs and several of its teams recently visited Real Madrid and Barcelona to play friendlies. It also hosted the recent SuperCupNI, formerly the Milk Cup, in July.
Jonny McConkey, head coach, said, “We’re delighted that Flogas has come on board as the sponsor of our 2003 jets and having a corporate name on the jerseys is a great morale boost for the team heading into the new season. We are a club with very high standards as recognised by the Irish Football Association and our committee is focused not only on the development of our young members as footballers but also on positive life skills that will take them through into adulthood.”
