Flogas is once again delighted to be the sponsor of the Jerpoint Glass summer exhibition and this year’s event, entitled ‘The Vessels’, is the first solo show for emerging photographic artist Derville Conroy. Jerpoint supports emerging artists working in the medium of glass and its annual summer exhibition forms part of the Kilkenny Arts Festival.
Using Jerpoint Glass in a range of colours and textures, Kilkenny-born Derville unveiled her dramatic ‘found’ landscapes using her own innovative techniques of photographing light through glass. This involves taking photos of arrangements of coloured glass bottles and "finding" within the lens an image that looks like a landscape. She has also set up a miniature photography studio to allow Exhibition visitors to discover how she creates her powerful landscapes.
Tommy Murray, the Flogas area representative attended the opening of the Exhibition and said, “We’re delighted to be involved and as always, Jerpoint Studio has succeeded in staging a really interesting and innovative exhibition around the Kilkenny Arts Festival. They should be applauded for the wonderful support they give to up and coming artists like Derville Conroy and we wish both her and the Jerpoint Studio team every success.”
Flogas supplies LPG which is used to power the studio’s furnace which melts the raw material and turns it into a lava-like liquid glass. The furnace runs at over 1100 degrees Celsius and is never turned off because if that was to happen, the glass would solidify and become a massive lump of solid glass.
