Flogas was proud to sponsor the brollies and balls for the victorious County Sligo golf club at Rosses Point, who teed up for a win against Galway to capture the Connacht Shield for the second year in succession on Sunday 28th September 2013. The Connacht Shield, which runs over several months during the summer, is one of the biggest golfing events in the province and the highlight of the golfing calendar for many clubs large and small. The competition final is played over ten matches, five home and five away, to decide the overall winner. County Sligo’s win was only the fourth time in 60 years that a Connacht club has won the tournament twice in a row.
John Gilmartin, brother of local Flogas representative Michael Gilmartin, was captain of the Sligo Golf Club’s 17-strong squad for the first time this year. John said,
“Taking on the job of team captain was a huge commitment but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. On the day of the final match, I could see that morale was high and our team was really up for it. Everyone played very well and it was a great feeling to be able to bring the Shield back home to the Club again.”
