The 2020 Dublin Racing Festival in Leopardstown came to a rapturous close and the most joyous scenes of the day were reserved for the Grade 1 Flogas Novice Chase on Sunday 2nd February, where firm fan favourite, the 12 year old Faugheen, showed the young pretenders how it was done as he fought right to the finish line to win against the impressive Battleoverdoyen.
Willie Mullin’s veteran steed, ridden by Paul Townend, was given a hero’s welcome as thousands of delighted race fans ran from the grandstand to cheer him into the parade ring. An overjoyed Mullins said: "To come back at his age and do it on the number one stage here, at the biggest festival - to me that's fantastic. It's probably one of the most special winners I've ever had."
John Rooney, managing director, Flogas Ireland, “What a terrific race this year, and a wonderful comeback story in the shape of Faugheen, who stole the hearts of the crowd with his thrilling win. We’ve been sponsors for several years now and we’ve never seen the crowd thrilled and delighted with a winner as they were with him.”
